Interferon Failers who switch to Copaxone do well

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has reported encouraging results from a three-year study evaluating relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients who failed first-line monotherapy and switched treatments.

The results demonstrated that patients who switched from interferon beta (IFN beta) to Copaxone (glatiramer acetate injection) experienced a 77% reduction in annualized relapse rates (0.63 to 0.14). In addition, these patients did not progress significantly in their disability as measured by expanded disability status scale (EDSS).

I WAS ON COPAXONE FOR 6 MONTHS AND WAS STILL HAVING NEW MS ATTACKS. ON ONE OF THE MORNINGS THAT I GAVE MYSELF A DAILY INJECTION IT IMMEDIATELY KNOCKED ME OUT AND SENT ME INTO THE HOASPITAL SO I STOPPED TAKING IT.

I switched from Betaseron to Copax. due to the side effects with the beta. I now have had 3 attacks since switching to copax. Needless to say I am now switching back to Beta. I'll brave the side effects as long as it helps keep the progression at bay. I guess I'm in the precent that copax. doesn't work for.

I am not very happy with Rebif. Is 1.5 years a long time to go without having a relapse? (I don't think so). I always thought that if Rebif failed me, maybe I could try tysabri. But after reading about this, perhaps I would have luck with Copaxone.

I took Rebif for almost three years and didn't realize what a depression it put me in. Yes, I am relapse free but really had a hard time getting out of bed in the a.m. Getting out of bed was actually my biggest accomplishment of the day. Really weird. Was ready to give up my job, my house and my husband - and I didn't care... Switched to Tysabri and feel so much better. I can't believe I tolerated the Rebif that long. Not sure I like what I'm hearing about Copaxone.
