Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2008-07-08 06:55.
In the study, done in collaboration with Cornell University and Finland's University of Turku, researchers followed the progress of mice that normally developed an MS-like condition. The scientists discovered that when the rodents consumed the equivalent of six to eight cups of coffee a day, they did not develop the condition.

I drink alot of coffee, 2 cups early AM and equivalent of 5-6 more thruout the day, switching to black or green tea or diet Coke in the afternoon and early evening. So I gets lots of caffiene, and though it does help some with fatigue, no impact on symptoms or excacerbation rates that I can tell. Still a good excuse to keep drinking though.

Here is a good no-spin review of this study: http://www.nhs.uk/news/2008/07July/Pages/Coffeeandmultiplesclerosis.aspx

I've had MS 10+yrs but only decreased and stopped drinking coffe in past the 3yrs. Before being dx w/MS I drank coffee all day and night every day. I am sure it was over 10 cups of coffee a day for over 15 years. I only stopped drinking it at my Dr's request. I have serious doubts that caffine had any affect on my MS ever. Aside from an occasional hot chocolate, I only drink ice water for 2 years now.
