Thanks Art. As a laymen it was way above my head. But it is clear that (i) MS is very complicated and (ii) we are some way off from understanding it.
The key issue is to get a definitive answer as to whether MS is (i) a primarily inflammatory disease which results in neuro-degeneration or (ii)a primarily a neuro-degenerative disease where inflammation is a secondary response.
Real progress can only be made when we can answer this (and also ditching the animal models which are so different from the human disease that they are worse than useless).
